4 Important Tests For Skincare Products
One of my favorite shopping items is skincare products. I love to try new products but sometimes I find them not really effective. I am quite often disappointed by the expensive products and their exaggerated descriptions. Other than feeling the products with my skin, I have discovered ways to test the quality of my skincare products. This helps me decide if I need to switch from one brand to another or stick to the same brand. I share with you 4 different simple tests. They are easily but effective in testing the quality of skincare products.
Toner is the first skincare product to apply after a facial cleansing. If toner is too irritating, your skin may become sensitive. To test the mildness of your toner, we need to know its PH value. You just need to drop a few drops of toner onto the PH paper and check its PH value. The higher the PH value, the more alkaline it is. The optimal range of PH value for toner is PH 5.5 to PH7. Skincare products with PH value under or below this range are either too acidic or too alkaline.
After applying toner, I usually apply a thin layer of essence to my face. These small bottles of essence are usually expensive and therefore, I expect significant effect from them. The most important attribute for effective essence is its absorbency. If it is able to penetrate deeper into my skin, the effect is better. To test if your essence can be easily absorbed by your skin, you just need some cotton pads. Piling up the cotton pads into a small stack and add a drop of essence to the stack. Wait for a while and see if your essence is able to pass through more than 3 layers of cotton pads. If yes, the essence can be considered as easily absorbed by skin.
Moisturizers are important skincare products for moisture replenishment. Very often, the moisturizers available in the market are more nourishing than moisturizing. That means they may not provide adequate moisture to your skin. To test this attribute, you need a glass of water. Add a pea size of your moisturizer to the water. Floating of moisturizer means it is oilier and hence more nourishing. Sinking of moisturizer on the other hand means it is more moisturizing.
Suncare products protect you against UV light and skin aging problem. But, some of them are too oily and clog your facial pores. It is important to test if your suncare product is too oily. You can perform this test in two simple ways. First, apply some of your suncare product on the back of your hand. Wait for 3-5 minutes. Then press a piece of oil blotting paper on your hand to see if there is a lot of oil absorbed. If yes, your suncare product is too oily. If you do not have oil blotting paper, after the 3-5 minutes of application, you may see if your hand is too shiny under the sun or bright light. If yes, it is too oily.
Skincare products are the food of your skin. The better food you offered to your skin, the healthier it is. Do not mislead by commercials, expensive products are not necessarily with high quality. Why not test your existing skincare products before deciding whether you should change them?
