Applying Eye Makeup: Look Your Best Every Time

Blue eyed women can wear navy blue, dark brown and cream shades, but those with fair complexions should stick to the paler shades for daytime. Green eyes and hazel eyes are well suited with browns, greens and taupe while gray eyes can handle a variety of blues, grays and even black.
The eye shape will determine how you put on the eye liner. Lining wide eyes all the way around will make them appear even larger, but you should never do the same to narrow eyes since they will appear even narrower. Just line the outside part of the eye and this will create the illusion of opening them up.
Applying eyeliner calls for a steady hand. Pull the eyelid and make a line of dots if you are having trouble drawing a straight line. Fill in the gaps between the dots. Work from the inside towards the outside lid. Do the same with the bottom lid.
To apply eye shadow, you should have at least three similar colors from lightest to the darkest. On the brow bone, the area below the eyebrow arch, apply with a small brush, not with the applicator, the lightest color. The next step is to put on the eyeliner so you do not mess up the neat line later on. The medium shade goes in the crease, covering it completely. Then the darkest color goes on the outside corner of the eye.
Mascara application is a cinch. As you apply, look directly in the mirror. Touch the lash tips with the mascara wand, and then move the wand horizontally as you cover the upper lashes with mascara. Then, with a light hand, touch the lower lashes while holding the applicator vertically.
Much like eyeliner and eye shadow, deciding on the right color of mascara depends a lot on your complexion and eye color. Black may be too unflattering for the daytime if you are a blonde or a redhead. Wear medium brown mascara instead. If you have medium skin tones, then you wear either a dark brown or a warm black mascara. If you have very dark brown or black eyes, then you can go with the darkest black.
